Taking Steps Towards College Success

Join us again this year for the 9th Annual “Taking Steps Towards College Success” event on Sunday, October 22, 2017!

“Taking Steps Towards College Success” is the first event in Arizona that provides the opportunity for all Arizonans to have direct access to college going materials and to ignite and motivate the masses on the importance of supporting and promoting higher education.  This year, the event begins with a college-going resource fair at Civic Space Park and culminates at the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) College fair the Phoenix Convention Center. This event will continue to encourage, enrich and enhance each family member’s chance of becoming college bound, focused and prepared. Please take a moment to view our 2015 walkathon video below.  We hope you enjoy it and look forward to seeing you at this year’s Walk!

Why Walk? Why Now?Many members of our community, particularly students, continue to face significant educational barriers making Arizona 43rd in the nation in percentage of high school graduates who go directly to college.  Taking Steps Towards College Success will set the standard to get college going information and support into the hands of all Arizona students and families.  In Arizona, for every 100 children in ninth grade; only 68 will graduate from high school four years later; only 19 will enter a 4-year college program within one year; and only 9 will complete their bachelor’s degree within 6 years.  The Be A Leader Foundation has set out to change our educational landscape and needs the support from our entire community to empower children and their families to adopt a college-going mentality.

Supporting Higher Education in Arizona
The Be A Leader Foundation needs your help  creating a statewide movement that will inform and empower thousands of Arizona students as well as their families to make college a priority and an expectation. You can be an active participant in taking steps to improve the educational landscape of our state by promoting this event within your organization and community and by motivating your peers to join the movement.  Take charge and lead your organization’s team, collect pledges and join us each year as we walk to promote higher education. We ask that you help us rally our community to walk for college by forming a team of colleagues, friends, supporters and their families to Take Steps Towards College Success!

Your active participation will show your commitment to education and will provide the platform to encourage your own friends and families to participate in the event and educate themselves about the college-going resources in Arizona. All participants will be exposed to the college-going resources in our state and reap the benefits of a national college fair as we partner with NACAC to bring over 220 universities and colleges to Arizona.  Your support will help us positively impact the lives of Arizonans, one student at a time, by empowering them to pursue a college education.
