Jacklyn has served in a few different roles within BALF, so she’s been able to witness first-hand the impact that the Be A Leader pipeline has in the life of a student and their family. In her current role, Jacklyn oversees the College Transition Programs and team of AmeriCorps Members who work with seniors in the Phoenix Union and Tolleson Union High School Districts.
A daughter of Mexican immigrants and a first-generation college student, Jacklyn and her family were guided through the college transition process by the Achieving a College Education (ACE) Program. Thanks to ACE, Jacklyn started taking college classes while still attending Carl Hayden High School. In 2010, she was able to graduate a year before her class with a Bachelor’s degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
Jacklyn is a proud graduate of Valle Del Sol’s Hispanic Leadership Institute – Class of 2016. Prior to joining BALF, she was Communications Coordinator and Adult Education Instructor at Friendly House, Inc., and Student Services Tech at Phoenix College ACE Program. She currently volunteers at Victory Outreach Phoenix Church where she mentors young women to live a life of purpose. Her and her husband, Moses, reside in the West Valley with their two dogs: Chapo and Zeke.
